The backup system used by Music Monitor varies based on where Music Monitor is hosted. In all cases schools are ultimately responsible for making sure sufficient backups are stored. Schools can institute backup measures in addition to the following.
When Hosted by FileMaker Server
Where Music Monitor is hosted by FileMaker Server on a dedicated server machine, backups are handled by FileMaker Server.
FileMaker Server automatically makes backups each night. These backups are kept for seven days.
Additional backup schedules can be added to the default daily backup. We recommend having a weekly backup scheduled with at least six weeks of backups retained.
By default, FileMaker server stores backups in the following locations:
- Windows: [drive]: \Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Server\Data\Backups
- macOS: /Library/FileMaker Server/Data/Backups
- Linux: /opt /FileMaker/Filemaker Server/Data/Backups
When Hosted on an Office Computer
If the Music Monitor files sit on a user's computer, Music Monitor uses an internal backup system.
To check where backups are being created, select Common Tasks > Set Up > Main Menu : Set up or edit location for file backups.
Two different backup file paths can be viewed and edited here. It is recommended to use a network drive location for these file paths. To check that backups have been made successfully, navigate to the locations specified in the file paths.
Music Monitor will ask if a backup should be made every fifth time it is closed. The backup location alternates between the two file paths.
